Erie Property Tax Assessments Fall Despite New Constructions
Erie reports a large drop in assessable value from 1936 to present with estimates of further cuts in 1985 and 1987. City officials led by City Assessor Andrew J. Sterrett say court rulings have trimmed the total by about 19.86 million since 1936, while new plant and home construction partially offset the decreases. Analysts expect another 0.26 million cut as disputed assessments move through the courts, with unimproved properties hardest hit by reductions.
