City Attorney Loses Phones In City Hall Over Bills
Dunkirk story reports City Attorney Donald J. McCarthy clashing with the Common Council's Finance Committee over monthly long distance bills. Workmen disconnected two telephones as the dispute escalates. McCarthy calls it harassment while Councilman Catalano defends the logging of calls and stated policy. A March notice precedes May 17, stating bills would not be paid without call logs. A separate note mocks pipe smoking prejudice at the Ritz.

County Delays Producing State Campaign Contribution Data
Erie County officials citing a 1856 law refuse to comply with a state House subpoena for records on campaign contributions from 1966 to 1974 until the state pays witness fees. County Solicitor Schaaf calls the demand casual and notes records go back only to 1967. The subpoena targets alleged ties between state contracts and corporate donations.
