World food supply report warns training boost needed
A President's Science Advisory Committee report says lack of trained manpower could slow expanding food production to meet rising world demand. It urges governments and industry to finance training while noting American industry can aid in the effort. The Agriculture Department reports 1968 forest revenues of 173.9 million and 25 percent returned to states for schools and roads. The National Farmers Organization calls cutting federal extension service funding and shifting to helping farmers secure fair prices.

Roads Need Increased Auto Fee Says Secretary
Pennsylvania highways chief Robert Bartlett says the state may must double auto registration fees to fund major road programs. Without the increase a $120 million hazard-elimination project would be deferred and two thirds of 1971–1979 projects cut, costing $1.1 billion. fees would rise to 20 dollars for autos and wagons to 20, with commercial rates up 50 percent and $600 million borrowing possible. Public opposition noted by Rep. Edward McNally and AAA officials.
