Jamestown Gas Pump Blown After Car Crash Injures Pump
A car struck a Modern-Age service station pump in Jamestown causing a gasoline explosion that blew the pump from its base. Witness Troyd Layton, 25, night manager, reported the accident occurred around 2:42 p.m. Willie Chapman, 16, was said to have driven the car into the pump, sparking the ignition. Separately Roy H. Lundberg, 43, of Kennedy, was arraigned in city court on a drunken driving charge, freed on $500 bond, and his case sent to the grand jury after a near collision at Second and Washington Streets. He had prior fines and a suspended sentence from a similar Mayville incident in 1940.

In Titusville a night exercise tested observation methods as Piper Cubs from Oil City flew overhead with about ten members of the Cleo J. Roas Pasty American Legion present at Sunset Heights observation post. In Erie a permanent federal court will operate through the summer with Judge Owen M. Burns presiding, while a three way probe into police corruption drags on, and officials await results amid police and mayoral statements.
