Engineers Appraise Hight Toll Bridges for State Purchase
Harrisburg reports five engineers have been hired to appraise and set a fair price for eight toll bridges the state will buy from private owners. Norman Sprague and E. Brubaker of Pittsburgh already completed work on Clerks Ferry bridge over the Susquehanna above Harrisburg. A constitutional amendment permitting a $10,000,000 bond issue enables the state regulation of the toll bridges. A gasoline automobile was used in the U S postal service in 1901.
