Letter to Parents Addresses Umpire Abuse After Death
A local columnist analyzes recent outrage over baseball and softball umpires amid a Terre Haute incident where Donald Jensen, struck by a thrown bat, died from a brain concussion after finishing a Little League game. Jensen's open letter urged fairness and responsibility from parents and coaches. He recounts calls and parental derision and argues youth should learn through playing, not blaming umpires. He recalls a manager counseling a young player to choose roles and laments how abuse harms developing athletes and officials.
