A family of three and a neighbor boy drowned yesterday in a murky pond near a pondside outing. Puller Mi Lavett and his wife attempted to rescue their son Ron 10, while a 9 year old and a 6 year old also perished. Spartansburg man Richard Henton, 18, was arrested at home on a charge of unattended property after a car struck a grocery, jumped a curb, and damaged a storefront. Damage about 75 dollars. Edward Saloti, 37, of Corry was struck by a northbound car after a dented gun case incident near Thion City, damage about 40 dollars. Henry Zanuth, 61, Turtle Creek, reported road trouble on Route 8 near Center Township.
Rhonda Jean McCleary, 2, daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard McCleary of Franklin, died at Franklin Hospital after being admitted with severe burns. She reportedly climbed onto an electric range in the kitchen and her clothing caught fire. She was admitted at 9 15 a m Saturday into the Brank Man Hospital.
A wheel separated on a westbound Erie Lackawanna freight near Meadville at 6 30 a m derailed 38 cars in two trains near the town s business district. No injuries reported. Damage to freight cars estimated at 45000 not including content damage. Eastbound train loaded with paper rolls fuel oil and merchandise and a tanker car toppled against brick buildings. Deton reports and rerouting plans affect passengers through Corry and Ol City, extending travel by about ten hours. A Meadville wreck crew worked the scene with authorities from Erie and the railroad seeking clearance of both tracks.
