Argument Brews On Who Lied At Hearings
The report notes a dispute over who lied at hearings as Sinadine Clark Clifford, once special counsel to President Truman, is cited. Stevens says Symington and Clifford advised him not to appear before McCarthy's subcommittee in a clash over Brig. General Ralph W. Zwicker. Dirksen says there is much work ahead before a decision on the broad dispute, amid tension with the White House over executive branch conduct. McCarthy contends federal employees must report wrongdoing to him.
