Donald Emilee and Fern Mack both 17 of Belfast were jailed in Mayville after being found with Almer Severtson's car stolen June 5. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two clusters, Purple Heart, and 26 missions. He is in good health but has left leg wounds and notes prisoner treatment as the best possible.
The increased cost of coal, effective today, raises prices for households and workers. Economic Stabilizer William H. Davis approved the hard coal price increase Saturday night along with related wage measures and 25 to 50 cent rent increases in industrial scales.
Aaron Obermayan and partners take over Modern Dry Cleaning Plant and Fur Storage at 848 West Spring StreetCorry resident Obermayan and associates acquire the operation from Mrs Martin and Parley Wells Corp. The deal includes dry cleaning and fur storage facilities in Meadville and Gil City, with Parley named as manager July 1.
The War Finance Committee reports the city’s bond score at 375 476, noting growth from prior totals and marking a gains percentage of about 68.2 percent of the city's goal.

Washington June 12. For the second time in a month the Office of Price Administration posts a two point hike for lard shortening and salad and cooking oils. Effective yesterday the boost sets a 12 point per pound value for these fats. OPA cites reduced supplies and weaker distribution and notes smaller third quarter allotments for all users except pharmaceutical makers. No change to butter and sugar values.
