Carter Platform Endorsed for United Democratic Ticket

Washington AP reports that Jimmy Carter received a noncontroversial Democratic platform aimed at uniting the party. The two days of meetings ended with near complete harmony, featuring support for national health insurance, income guarantees for the poor, full employment within three years, and a strong defense while pursuing détente. The total program cost is estimated at about 30 billion dollars excluding health care reform. The platform was described as a Democratic document, not Carter’s personally, by Stuart Bizenstat. A church note mentions Emmanuel Episcopal on Canter Street at Smith with a Thursday 7 pm service.
