Garland Girl Killed On Rain-Slick Route 6
Two Garland sisters from the 4H Club were traveling home from Warren when their car skidded on a wet road two miles west of Warren on Route 6. Nancy Carol Howell, 16, died from loss of blood after being pulled from the wreck. Her sister Trudy Howell was in fair condition with a fractured leg and shock at Warren General Hospital. Nancy, entering her senior year at Brokenstraw Valley Joint High School, was born August 25, 1947, in Warren and raised in Garland.

Bus Rams Truck Injuring Four in California

Causeway crash near New Orleans cuts 200 feet of bridge
A collision involving two heavy barges and a lowboat Rebel Jr. knocked down about 200 feet of the 24 mile causeway from New Orleans north across the lake. The crash left a bus driver Ernest Waugh of Jackson Miss. in critical condition and the dead unidentified.
