George E. Johnson aged 44 of Garland died instantly when he brushed a high tension wire while trimming a tree on his property. An emergency agent for the Penn Public Service Corporation he fell about twenty feet, suffering internal injuries after the contact. Coroner Ed Lowrey ordered removal to his home as investigators reviewed the accident. Johnson, a former teacher, is survived by his widow and three brothers.
A St Edward's parochial school evening showcased 21 eighth graders as they received promotion certificates to move to high school. Miss Ressler won the top oratorical prize of $5 for The Sicilian's Tale, with Bernard Burkett second for Give Me Thy Heart and Miss Florence McBoyd third for The Bishop And the Cow. State troopers raided a Steelton brewery late last night destroying over 400 kegs of beer ready for shipment. Three large vats were also destroyed as authorities pursue operators and owners described as running the largest wildcat brewery found in eastern Pennsylvania. The beer exceeded four percent alcohol.

Pittsburgh June 14 The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad failed in its last minute effort to join northern railroads in a 20 cent per ton rate reduction on lake cargo coal from Pennsylvania West Virginia and Ohio bituminous fields The Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington granted permission yesterday to join the reduction to take effect June 18 after the B and O had previously asked for only a 10 cent reduction
Pittsburgh June 14 Heat has claimed two men in Allegheny County. Ignats Dephbar 45 of Universal Phy and Nogey Shamdor 95 of Mamestead Fs died from exposure. Authorities report the deaths occurred during extreme heat conditions and are investigating details.
Regular meeting of the school board last night discussed replacing the senior high heating apparatus and fire escapes. Bids will be asked for the upgrade, with plans to improve safety and infrastructure at the high school.
Corry Public School Board approved advertising for bids to replace heating apparatus and erect new fire escapes at the Senior High building. A special meeting will open bids later this month. The board also discussed redistributing $160,900 in district fire insurance among agents, and approved remodeling Hatch school for expanded vocational programs.
Mrs B F Starr and several locals attended a ceremony marking the dedication of a memorial boulder in Waterford Park honoring Revolutionary War heroes. The event was yesterday afternoon and concluded with a reception at Mrs Paul Nicky's home, with attendance from Mrs A P Griswold and others.

Stewart chairman of Standard Oil Company of Indiana was acquitted by a jury on contempt of the Senate charge for refusing to answer questions from the Senate Tapot Dome committee about appearances to testify February 2 and 2. The case followed a United States Attorney indictment and carried potential penalties of one month to one year in jail and a 100 to 1000 dollar fine.

Rome reports three crew members injured when the Italia dirigible plunged onto Antarctic ice on May 25. General Umberto Nobile, Natale Cecioni, and Finn Malmgren sustained injuries. Cecioni the most seriously. Ice shifts near Northeast Land keep Nobile stranded as the craft blows eastward with others.
A westbound Erie train 77 derailed twenty four cars just east of Randolph station, deranging tracks for hundreds of feet and halting service for hours. All crew escaped injury. A later eastbound train faced delays while trains rerouted via Dayton. An investigation began to determine the cause as traffic slowly resumed later today.
President and Mrs. Coolidge sped toward Ward Wisconsin for a midwestern vacation. Mrs. Coolidge, improving from a recent disability, rode in a private compartment with President Coolidge and nurse Miss Mabel Beet, who will remain in constant attendance during the journey and at Cedar Island Lodge.
London June 14 Emmeline Pankhurst prominent British suffrage leader and mother of Sylvia Pankhurst died at the West End Nursing Home after months of illness. Widow of Richard Marsden Pankhurst she long led suffragist circles in Great Britain. She served on public reform groups then devoted herself to securing votes for women. During the war she supported national service and gave many recruiting speeches. Her daughters Christabel and Sylvia also active in suffrage work. She authored My Own Story published earlier in the century.
