Pennsylvania history writer to focus on industry and finance

Andrew Carnegie’s wealth and early American finance figures like Nicholas Biddle and Robert Morris are highlighted in a forthcoming one volume state history by Dr. Thomas C. Cochran of the University of Pennsylvania. Commissioned by the National Endowment for the Humanities, Cochran will center on Pennsylvania’s industrial leadership and financial training ground. His work will not cover the entire state history, instead emphasizing coal, iron, and railroads as the backbone of the Industrial Revolution. Cochran plan includes a tentative title Pennsylvania The Keystone of the Industrial Revolution. He will start writing next fall after completing another project on American business abroad.
