Services for Jack F. Brooks were held at Bracken Funeral Home with Rev. E F Armitage officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery Union City, with bearers and relatives listed from multiple states and towns. A Warren County grand jury indicted Edward Clyde Silvis of West Hickory for murder and robbery in the death of 87 year old Alice Neil Siggins in West Hickory on April 12. A change of venue motion exists. hearing set for next Forest County court date, with possible Supreme Court review if denied.
The gunman, Silvis 29, entered the Tionesta State Police Barracks about an hour after the incident and admitted shooting the victim. Authorities report the confession, amid the April 12, 1969, home invasion claim.
In Parkerburg West Virginia Susan and Roger Bailey wept at the funeral for their father mother and 10 siblings believed murdered in a family fire. The 15 year old girl and 13 year old boy are in Wood County jail, having admitted arson with gasoline. The motive cited is a dispute with their father over dating a 17 year old cousin. The two face the same maximum sentence as adults under state law.
A 21 year old Mount Pleasant man James E Davis was charged with murder in the drowning of 21 year old Viet nam veteran Wayne O Shawley at Bridgeport Dam after a party fight. Two others Larry W Cramer and Vincent P Martinowski were charged as accessories and with assault and battery. Police said more arrests are expected.
Two inmates James E. Johns and Kenneth E. Walters fled State Correctional Institution at Rockview Friday and were recaptured fifteen miles away near a hunting cabin after five days in the field. Johns, 28, Chester, burglary term one to two years. Walters, 32, Philadelphia, bad check term same. Local unemployment claims fell last week of May to 49,923, down 583 from prior week and 2,473 from a year ago.
