Fathers Day contrasts drafts and protections in wartime

A 1945 survey notes many young fathers feel happier on Fathers Day as draft rules shift. It recounts historic delays for men with dependents, Pearl Harbor changes, and policy steps that limited or halted inductions for fathers. Jamestown Home Burned in Fruited Blaze

Jamestown June 12 A blaze at a two family residence caused by defective wiring in a clothes closet burned the home and caused more than 3900 in damage before firefighters subdued the flames after a ten minute fight. Mrs Hyde and her family occupied the first four rooms of the dwelling and heard crackling sounds before flames forced them back. David Hyde ran to neighbors for help while firemen cut away ceiling and windows to reach the blaze. Two booster lines and an 81 inch fog nozzle controlled the fire. The closing line about peacocks appears unrelated to the event.
