Erie Workman Crushed to Death Under Big Safe
A 25 year old Erie worker, Merton J. Wood, was crushed when a large safe toppled during a move at the Stern building. The accident occurred as ropes failed and the safe descended onto the sidewalk trapping Wood beneath. Coroner Hanley ordered a full investigation as crowd gathered and coworkers mourned.
