Two Aviators Die in Wright Biplane Test Crash

A Wright biplane test flight at College Park Maryland ended in tragedy as Dryan Army aviator Leighton W Hazelhurst and pro flyer Al Welsh perished. The machine rose to about 69 feet and 60 miles per hour before pitching forward. spectators reached the scene to find both men dead, Hazlehurst’s leg broken and Welsh crushed. The craft was badly wrecked, with possible snapped wires and a plunge to the ground. The incident marks the third Army aviator fatality reported in the period.
