General S E Anderson of Air Research and Development Command announced the Air Force plans a lunar flight in August using three Thor missiles. The payloads will crash on the moon without instruments to signal arrival, with trajectories covering about 278000 miles in roughly two and a half days. Other missiles are slated for September and October.

The 82 member Joint Committee from six districts will meet at Corry Area High School on June 23 to elect a new superintendent. The administration committee unanimously selected a Western Pennsylvania administrator from 20 applicants, who has agreed to accept the post pending formal election. He will replace Superintendent L. M. Douglas, who departs for North Huntington Township schools near Irwin, Pa.
President Eisenhower proposed July 1 start in Geneva for talks on a future nuclear test ban with Khrushchev. Switzerland as site preferred over Moscow, with neutrals and Western powers invited, including UK and France. Khrushchev suggested Moscow but agreed to Geneva and possible wider participation.
The Couy Committee rejected a $100 raise for Miss Nelle Titus to remain supervisor of the high school newspaper and refused to double pay for junior and senior class advisors. It also declined paying custodians for a 44 hour summer week, saying no payment for hours not worked.
The Corry Elks Lodge plans the 90th Flag Day observance Friday at 7 20 p m in the lodge room to ensure weatherproof plans. The Corry High School band will perform and Mayor J Fred Kinley will speak. A feature will be the introduction of all living past exalted rulers. The public is invited.
Secretary of Labor Mitchell condemned a Senate labor union reform bill as completely ineffective. Senators Kennedy and Ives challenged the administration, saying the bill would give no power to compel testimony or subpoenas. Mitchell spoke while attending a meeting in Switzerland, defending provisions endorsed by Eisenhower.
Prime Minister Harold Macmillan called for a start to world peace with a little by little approach to discarding all big weapons. Speaking at Johns Hopkins University he said a staged relaxation of tensions is possible only if both sides are willing and that controlled disarmament of nuclear and conventional arms should begin now.
Detroit fires Jack Tighe as manager with Bill Norman named successor. Tighe led the club to a fourth place finish last season and the Tigers sit last in the AL standings. Norman, 47, has managed the Charleston farm club and will take over tonight.
Bomare missile test near Cape Canaveral reports a successful flight over the Atlantic. The ground to air interceptor aims to destroy enemy aircraft up to 300 miles offshore. More than 40 BOMARE missiles have been fired from the Air Force test center since the program began.
Pat Burns died from burns suffered when a stave exploded in his home last Wednesday. Samuel B. Goughler, 82, of Harmony in Butler County, died yesterday at Elkwood City Hospital.
Associated Press reports signs Moscow signals Nikita Khrushchev may purge his Kremlin rival Mikhail Suslov from top posts. Suslov, a Central Committee secretary and Presidium member, headed propaganda and cultural work and led foreign party relations. Absence from public appearances since May 18 and from a recent summit point to erosion of his power. May 17 saw Konstantinov replaced by Tyichev in propaganda section. Continued on Page Six.
Some 350 members of Lodge 2107 International Association of Machinists returned to work at Dahlstrom Metallic Door Co after accepting a company offer to settle a strike that began April 16. The 23 month contract includes a 13 cents an hour wage hike, a pension plan and fringe benefits. The agreement covers a month ending May 1 1960 and provides a 10 cent general wage increase in year one plus other improving benefits. Around 400 of 590 TAM members at Dahlstrom were working when the strike began.
Francis J. Heckman, 70, of Bentleyville, was killed yesterday when his car left Route 72, overturned a mile east of the Washington County community. He was alone in the vehicle.
Union and management in the Corty Jamestown plant held a six hour session at the Hotel Gorry yesterday with little progress reported. A new meeting will be scheduled by Federal Mediator Grover Stainbrook upon request. Salaried employees retained during the strike will begin a vacation June 16 returning June 30 as announced by management.
Two area youths escaped serious injury when the car they rode in left a wet highway near Lovelly Corners and rolled several times at about 1 a.m. John Brown, 18, and Laurence Nielsen, 17, were treated and released from Corry Memorial Hospital. Brown had bruises and Nielsen suffered a back laceration from a shattered bottle during the crash. Police had no further information.
The Corry YMCA appeal for 130000 surpassed 54 459 in cash and pledges this morning, with new totals of 19 402 bringing the running total to 54 459 from 427 donors. About 800 individuals remain to be contacted by volunteers, with a Friday 7 a m meeting at the Hotel Corry expected to yield further donations. The new funds cover completion of the North Center Street YMCA building, regarded as among the finest in the east, for which a second drive was anticipated.
Members of the Corry Zoning Board the mayor and Atlantic Refining Co. officials met at noon to discuss a refinery’s request to amend the zoning ordinance. The firm seeks a new station on North Center Street with options on two sites and interest in a third. The meeting focused on permitting the new station on one of the sites under study.
A car whip crashes on the Bronx River Parkway sending a female passenger flying about 100 feet over an eight foot fence into the Bronx Zoo. Police report the northbound car crossed into the median and then across lanes, struck a rock embankment, shearing off its front wheels and tumbling onto the zoo grounds.
