Senate panel close to Eisenhower tax plan aims
Senate Finance Committee finished a six week session on the 875 page tax revision bill. It largely accepted corporate and individual benefits sought by the administration, totaling about 1.4 billion in tax cuts in the first year. Democrats did not push a broad personal income tax cut and indicated plans to press on the Senate floor. The bill retains exemptions and new deductions, expands medical expense write offs, raises retirement income allowances, and adds provisions for farmers and single heads of families. A temporary suspension of a tax cut for foreign income and other changes are included to offset revenue gains.
