Power failure blamed on human error across four states
Federal Power Commission chief Lee White urged Congress to grant authority to set reliability standards and create regional planning councils after a massive blackout struck Pennsylvania New Jersey Delaware and Maryland. The outage affected about 13 million people and was tied to an overloaded high voltage line due to a Philadelphia Electric Co dispatch decision. Israel May Be Moving Too Fast For Supply
U S analysts warn Israeli army supply lines could be overstretched if advance columns cross the Suez Canal toward Cairo, as troops push 180 miles beyond the border. Supplies must keep pace for advancing units, with convoys of civilian and military vehicles carrying fuel, ammo and food. Potential supply gaps risk weakening spearhead forces and elongating lines of communication across increasingly populous territory.

US officers say Israelis near 400 Arab aircraft destroyed
US military figures who studied reports from attaches in the Middle East say Israel’s opening actions likely destroyed more than 400 Arab aircraft. They note uncertainty on tanks, with some estimates suggesting 200 Egyptian tanks knocked out or captured may be conservative. Supply lines to Israeli forces near Elath appear secure as Egyptian troops pull back from the Suez area. Pamela Frankau, 59, noted British novelist, dies after short illness.
