Renovovo Banker Goes On Trial Case Opens In Williamsport

In Williamsport the U S District Court heard the case of Howard N Cassel receiver for the First National Bank of Renovo versus Frank J Burnett former cashier and John V Burnett in courtroom 2 before Judge Albert J Waton. The plaintiff alleges Burnett and William R Reilly president and brother in law withdrew a $5000 deposit just before the bank closed to secure full repayment while others received little. The defense contends John Burnett had a $9000 deposit for a building project and withdrew funds after a new slip to hide the larger withdrawal was created, claiming Burnett had no knowledge of the bank’s precarious condition.
