Record breaking number of horses in training on Corry track

More than sixty horses are in training at the Corry track this season. The sizable stable includes Col Arnold Kane with fifteen head and other local owners such as Hunt, Jones and Smith from Union City. Track facilities and preparations are improving as the season progresses and, within a week or two, racing is expected to begin daily.

Floors Fall Firemen Saved In Philadelphia Collapse

United Press reports a building housing a bed concern on Second Street collapsed early morning. Firemen trapped beneath the second floor were rescued as flames surged around them. One man remained pinned for over half an hour under piles of mattresses and died after release. others suffered severe burns and injuries.

Columbus Dynamiter Is Known and Acknowledged

A State Fish Commission official visited Columbus regarding a recent dynamiting of the creek above the pond. Health officials gathered bullheads and suckers, baskets of ash, and evidence points to a Corry store purchase of dynamite. Columbus barber Mr. Colm is said to have witnessed suspects departing the scene. arrests are expected soon.

Police Matter Held Over By Commission In Absence

City commission meeting delayed due to Mayor Patterson's absence as he travels to New York on important business. Protests and pension petitions for police officers and franchise issues were deferred until the mayor can attend. Street and drainage concerns along West Pleasant street, plus repairs to the city building including the chimney, were slated for further consideration and action.

End-of-Year Events at Local High School

The remaining days of the school year will be filled with events. Wednesday features a stambu lations display, Thursday exams for grades, and the annual Manual Training and Domestic Science exhibit. Friday shows a moving picture in the auditorium, followed by Sunday evening sermons. Monday and Tuesday mark senior exercises and the forty first commencement. The exhibit highlights student work, inviting all interested in sewing and general crafts.

Wright and Nast stores begin fit in Liverature building

Contractor Munger started work on Wright and Nast stores in the Liverature building on Center Street. Each shop will be 24 by 90 feet with a 25 foot rear balcony. the Wright Jewelry story fills the south half with mahogany fixtures and an optical department on the balcony. Copper and glass fronts imitate the previous design with a deeper entrance. Occupancy is planned for August first and a street clock will be placed at Center Street once the Wright store moves from West Main Street.

Local Man at Convention Designee for Corry Council

Richard P. Danon designated to represent Corry Council No. 297 at the state convention of the United Commercial Travelers. The convention meets in Wilkes-Barre Wednesday and Thursday this week. Corry branch has existed over ten years with 52 members. Mr. Dawson to depart tomorrow morning.

President's Daughter Undergoes Throat Operation

Margaret Wilson daughter of the president was operated on this morning at Dr Kyle's offices in Philadelphia. She was not inconvenienced by the procedure and returned to Washington this afternoon.
