Pittsburgh will not send a team to the National Marbles Championships in Wildwood New Jersey. Declining interest and rising costs led to the decision. the parks and recreation director cited changing recreational needs and better use of funds after more than four decades of city marble competition.
Union County officials met with Richard J. Harris of the Public Utility Commission to inspect McNerney's Crossing on West High street extension two miles west of Union City. Harris backed corrective action and will file a report for commission review after on site findings. The crossing has been dubbed dangerous by residents after several near tragedies, including the February 2 death of 17 year old Joy McGuire in a collision at the crossing.

A proposed Pennsylvania bill would strip driving privileges from anyone convicted of DUI involving unlawful narcotics. The measure, approved by conference and awaiting House action, lowers penalties for driving without rights to evade arrest, capping fines at 300 dollars and six months in jail in some cases.
