Millcreek approves 3.5 million plant project after zoning overruled
Millcreek supervisors overruled the zoning commission to allow a 35 acre site on New Perry Highway near Evans Road to be rezoned from A residential to light industry. The Greater Erie Industrial Development Corp aims to secure a third loan of 90 000 dollars for a plant expected to employ about 250 workers initially with potential for 500. The project promises a 1 million dollar annual payroll and 1 million dollars in local supplier business, despite objections from about 75 residents who fear property devaluation. The plant would be the favored site among six Pennsylvania municipalities and 180 nationwide contenders.
