He edged Ted Kroll of New Hartford N C on the first hole of a playoff to win 2400 dollars. In earlier rounds Mangrum overcame a four stroke deficit to overtake Roberto de Vincenzo Bob Rosburg and Jack Burke.

About 1,100 fans packed the venue for the opening show at Bob Qepier as Killer Joe Christie and Bob Orton claimed wins. Christie defeated Herb Foster in 27 minutes, then took the second fall in 8:52 to win the best two of three. Orton rallied to beat Mans Herrman after a half hour delay, taking the final two falls. Next show scheduled for June 22.
