NRA CHIEF CONFIDENT OF SETTLEMENT FOR STEEL STRIKE
United Press reports on June 7 that Recovery Administrator Hugh S Johnson will announce whether the Iron and Steel Institute accepts his plan to avert a steel strike. Johnson expressed hope for an eleventh hour peace before June 18 and said the plan would create a special labor relations board similar to that used in the automobile industry. Steel leaders, citing a “closed shop” interpretation, weighed the plan as May operations reach the highest capacity since last July.
