Robert Clauser a 37 year old Kaiser Aluminum employee dies at Hamot Hospital after being hit by pieces from a 5000 ton hydraulic press at the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical plant. Coroner Merle Wood said death likely occurred minutes after the accident during a press adjustment. Industrial relations supervisor Thomas Brennen called it the first industrial fatality at the plant and ordered an inquiry into press operation and placement of the aluminum block. An autopsy was planned.
Governor David L. Lawrence of Pennsylvania today delivered the commencement address to LaSalle College graduates. He will receive an honorary doctorate and his son Gersid will receive a bachelor of arts degree.
President Kennedy's physician Dr Janet Travell warned graduates that medical science will soon cure human behavior rather than physical illness. AP reports that U.S. auto dealers sold 597,025 new cars in May, at a daily rate of 20,686, the strongest month so far in 1960. Despite a slower pace than May 1960, the gap narrowed to under 90,000 units from the year’s prior lag.

Raymond Weber defends Patterson noting efforts to solve the issue with a demolition firm delayed by fire and council.
