Harrisburg officials report the Senate finance committee rejected Gov. George Earle’s call for 56.2 million dollars in new taxes. Two proposed fixes include accelerating corporation tax collection and authorizing temporary motor fund transfers to the general fund to address the crisis.
World War veterans from northwest Pennsylvania and southwest New York will gather in Corry as Elmer C. Carrier Post 305 hosts a yearly rally. A 7 30 p m parade will feature bugle and drum corps from Warren Meadville Erie and other towns plus the Corry High School band and junior corps. After the parade a program at City Park with James Isherwood and state leaders will be followed by a dancing party and luncheon at the State Armory.
United Press reported Toledo s electric strike ending after 24 hours with a temporary settlement. Workers returned to plants and offices of Toledo Edison Company under terms approved by the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. A five member union committee will travel to New York to confer with company officials led by vice president Oliver Myers.
Havana reports a ransom of 286000 dollars was sent to Antonio San Miguel's abductors, who had seized the Cuban magnate and his valet after a car kidnapping. Police say the criminals demanded 500000 dollars and released San Miguel's chauffeur Simon with a note.
Alderman George H. Gordon and Constable Léon R. Tiffany, both of Corry, released after paying $9.50 costs each and medical expenses to Mrs. Anna Bruvarny. The hearing followed claims of assault and battery. Bruvarny testified of injuries, including a facial wound, from blows by Tiffany. Bruvarny’s husband, John Bruvarny, faced 60 days in jail on a peace charge but was released on settlement terms.
County tax collection would be consolidated to three centers if the Moomaw-Moran bill passes the senate. The plan keeps one collector in each third class city and one for areas outside cities. Discovery of a second $20 bill tied to the $200,000 ransom for nine year old George Weyerhaeuser supports authorities’ belief the abductors slipped from Puget Sound country. A new bill passed through a Spokane post office money order division. a clerk could not describe the passer. The first ransom bill was traced to a man who bought a Salt Lake City ticket in Huntington Oregon.
June 6 Paris report says Francois Pieri abandoned his bid to form a cabinet with extraordinary powers to end the franc crisis. Pieri, a financial expert and former navy minister, had sought power by decree but could not secure enough support in the chamber of deputies.
Mrs. Mary H. Carey 59 confers final blessing on her three sons before execution. Howard 27 to die on the gallows tomorrow James 28 serving life Lawrence 21 in burglary. The three faced each other in the corridor as work crews prepared the gallows at the Sussex County prison.
Harrisburg June 6 The Pennsylvania House adopted a resolution by Rep Darlington Hoopes and Berks directing the Department of Welfare to furnish data to the legislature. The figures cover all age pension recipients, applications for assistance, and investigations. A Warren County farmer, William Yaraten, reported thirty nine week old chickens stolen by chicken thieves who visited his R D 5 farm Tuesday night. The theft outside the city led to state police referral for investigation. Earlier two thieves were surprised robbing West Columbus Avenue coop and other farms reported similar losses with a bag of three chicks found near the State Fish Hatchery.

The measure bans candidates from running on more than one party ticket. Also on the schedule are the Batch-Dent horse racing proposal, liberal bills to permit Sunday polo and Sunday tennis, and a Sunday movie referendum bill advancing from Senate to House calendars.
Washington June 6 Democratic leaders and administration officials agreed on principles for a brief NRA extension. The resolution to be drafted and favored by the Ways and Means Committee is expected to be rushed through tomorrow. Conferees declined to detail the agreement.

Philadelphia reports the Gulf Refining Company is exonerated of 72 alleged NEA code violations after the federal indictment was dropped. The quash was due to the Supreme Court invalidating the NRA and Judge Kirkpatrick sustained a demurrer filed by the company’s attorneys challenging the recovery net.
