Eliminate Bear Season Trimmed Doe Licenses In Pa

Pennsylvania will not have a bear season for the first time in 36 years and antlerless deer licenses are cut by about 10 percent this year. The Game Commission cited high past harvests in 1966 and 1967 and a resulting shortage of bears in the north central region. Hunters killed 605 bears in 1966 and 568 in 1967. 218 in 1968 and 295 in the two-day 1969 season. Antlerless licenses drop to 338,500 from 379,000 authorized last year and 482,550 in 1968 as deer herd size shrinks.
