Buddhist nun commits self immolation in Da Nang court yard
A 26 year old Buddhist nun Thich Na Dieu Dinh set herself on fire in a Da Nang pagoda courtyard, the sixth such self immolation since Sunday amid anti government Buddhist protests. Monks said she left a letter accusing President Johnson of annihilating Vietnamese Buddhists with US policies. Her death underscores extremist Buddhist opposition to a truce with Ky’s regime. Tam Chau, head of the Buddhist Institute, resigned under pressure from militants, a move to be reviewed by a special council in two to three days. Calm followed calls to observe Buddha’s birthday at home as police removed road blocks outside the institute. The incident appears on page four.
