House GOP Crushes Lawrence Tax Plans

House Republicans defeated Gov. Lawrence tax proposals in a Tuesday vote citing the need to address the budget first. The record defeat involved extending the 3 percent sales tax to liquor stores and distributors, a six mill personal property tax on stocks and bonds, and raising the bank share tax to 10 mills. Investigating Sheriff Slain In North Carolina

CAHS seniors place in county scholarship exams

Employment In Corry Area Improves With Higher Placements

The Corry Pennsylvania State Employment Service reports a second straight month of improved area employment with high placements and fewer unemployment claims. Escape Plot Tops Iowa Penitentiary Breakout

Four long term prisoners at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison held a guard and a cellblock captain at knifepoint and escaped through a window in cell house 19 after sawing from their cells. The breakout occurred around 12:25 am and involved the second tier cellblocks as officers raised the alarm.

Texas storms lash West Texas with winds and heavy rain
