Erie burglar waives hearing in multiple charges
Edward "Baby Face" Bruce, 37, bound over on seven secretary charges after waiving hearings announced by attorney Edward Carney. Bruce has been held in county jail without bond since hospital release May 25 after four bullet wounds from an April 7 botched police trap. His girlfriend Minty Ann Scalise and brother Joseph Bruce face hearings Monday on receiving stolen goods charges. both are free on bond.

Former constable pays $50 fine in misused funds case
Former Carroll town constable Clayton D. Stanton of Frewsburg paid a $50 fine after pleading purg ry to a misused funds charge. The case, filed by Undersheriff Weekes, was dismissed on district attorney guidance. Stanton had been accused of diverting fines from two motorists. In a separate item, National Steel Corp. to close its Weirton Cost Mine near Morgantown, citing difficult operating conditions, affecting about 300 workers since 1950.
