City University of New York to Start Charging Tuition
The City University of New York will begin charging tuition for its 250,000 undergraduates in September, ending a 12 year no tuition era. The plan aims to raise about 135.5 million dollars yearly, with undergraduates facing about 750 dollars annually. Graduate students are unaffected. Chancellor Kibbee ordered the system closed as funds ran out, and officials await a possible 24 million dollar state aid while lawmakers consider relief.

Erie Doctor Faces Obstruction Charge At VA Hospital
Erie police say Dr. Robert Whitrock chief of staff at the Erie Veterans Administration Hospital will be charged with obstructing the administration of the law after he barred officers from questioning a beating victim and refused a blood test. The incident occurred at the hospital yesterday and involved disputes over authority and jurisdiction between federal staff and local police with a U.S. marshal advised in some aspects. The victim was later moved to a Buffalo VA Hospital in reportedly good condition with brain injury details provided by officials. Det. Sgt. Don Levis leads the investigation as police seek the alleged assailant. Meanwhile a separate note reports San Diego coastal nudist celebration marking the city’s 2nd anniversary of Beach nudity legalization drawing up to 30,000 participants.
