Senate Approves Postal Pay Hike Plan Aimed at Eisenhower

A new postal pay bill headed for Senate passage would raise wages about 8 percent for 500000 postal workers with a 6 percent floor and reclassification to boost higher brackets. Supporters say the measure meets President Eisenhower’s objections to the vetoed earlier bill. The plan costs about 164 million dollars yearly, down from 179 million in the vetoed version. Present pay scales date to 1951.
