A heavy rainfield rattled western Pennsylvania with flooding of basements and streets. Latrobe saw nine families evacuated as Marguerite Reservoir overflowed Whitney. Greensburg had flooded basements and a lightning strike on a house. A strong wind shattered a Latrobe service station window. Rain will ease later, with lingering clouds and humidity. Douthit and family reside near Larson Air Force Base Washington and Punxsutawney Pennsylvania.
Corry James town and union negotiators met again to end a 15 week strike affecting about 600 workers. A further session was scheduled for tomorrow and next week’s Thursday and Friday are reserved if needed. Yesterday’s talks carried a positive, constructive tone and a rumor of possible return to work next Monday was denied.
At Andrews Air Force Base near Washington 15 airmen donated blood for seven year old Alvin Zembower of Bedford Pennsylvania undergoing heart surgery. University Hospital said the boy was in quite critical condition after a five hour operation his heart stopped and blood circulated through a heart lung machine during repair by surgeons. The blood was needed after a distress call from the boy’s father Gordon Zembower who could not obtain the rare blood type from existing agencies.
