A 10th and Franch street parcel in Erie sold for 165000 to Cleveland interests for a planned million dollar project. Attorney Colin H. Wright of Lakewood said reports of a theatre on the site are erroneous. the Cleveland group has surveyed Erie for five years for a suitable site.
Six cows owned by Ralph Thompson and his son were killed or injured when struck by a truck driven by Keith Raymond as they crossed a road at the Thompson farm west of the village. Two cows died at the scene and four were destroyed later. no insurance was carried.
Wattsburg Fair runs August 26 to 30 with Dell Darling as master of ceremonies. The program features horse pulling, harness races, running and pony races with purses from 25 to 550 dollars, band concerts, fireworks, livestock judging, and radio entertainment. Purses and premiums are raised to lift overall event standards for farms and businesses in northwestern Pennsylvania.
The Columbus dam renewal plan stalls as state approval and reasonable repair specs remain absent. Local funds could support a modest fix, but a new elaborate plan would await state funds, risking long delays or death of the project without political advocacy in Harrisburg.
A small fire occurred near West Min Street at nine oclock. A brush fire near a large stockpile of poles stored by the Pennsylvania Electric Company was quickly extinguished by booster lines. The flames did not reach utility poles and the alarm drew hundreds of motorists to the area.
