Vansittart urges unconditional surrender and Allied control after war

In a controversial reflection, Vansittart argues for Germany’s unconditional surrender, occupation by Allied forces, demobilization of armed units, demilitarization of police, abolition of the military economy, and Allied supervision of German media. He supports extensive reeducation and reparations, warning against permissive postwar revenge. George Bernard Shaw counters with fairness critiques, questioning reeducation, discipline, and the risk of a punitive occupation transforming into further conflict.
