Erie Alderman Gets Off Light in Fraud Case
Erie alderman Johnn Curtis, 72, pleaded and received mercy as Judge Elmer L. Evans suspended sentence on two counts of extortion of fees. The case followed charges by District Attorney Danial McKaughi accusing Curtis of overcharging clients for criminal warrants. Curtis was ordered to restitution for overcharges and to pay prosecution costs. additional complaints could lead to further action.

Carburetor blamed in fatal crash report
Federal investigators and Pennsylvania State Police concluded the engine failed after air intake obstruction in a single engine airplane crash that killed Henry Miller of Haliburton Ontario and injured Marshall Mathis of Warren. Union City Driver Held In 2 Deaths
Union City driver R. D. Hammond of Union City was ordered held for court on a charge of involuntary manslaughter after a dump truck plunged through a bridge on Lake Pleasant road May 9. The truck carried Mr and Mrs Clute B Hodges of RD 2 Centerville as passengers. both were killed when thrown from the vehicle after crossing railroad tracks. Hammond pleaded not guilty.
