NFG Expects Safe Winter With New Customers
National Fuel Gas, after a rough last winter, expects to weather a harsher season and plans to add 1,000 new residential, commercial and industrial customers. Vice President William Hill says the added demand will still use only a small portion of gas, about two-tenths of a billion cubic feet in Pennsylvania, and the company can handle a winter 10 percent colder than normal.

Corry offers emergency heating aid and new gas policy plan
The Erie County Board of Assistance invites applications under the Emergency Fuel program for one time cash help to cover higher heating bills due to severe winter conditions. Applications are taken at the Corry Salvation Army Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eligibility requires income limits or public assistance, proof of large fuel bills between 1970 and 1977, and evidence of overdue or threatened shut-off. Santa Barbara Brush Fire Destroys Homes Frightens City
A wind driven brush fire roared from the Santa Ynez Mountains destroying up to 200 homes and threatening businesses in Santa Barbara. Officials blamed arson on some reports, while others said at least 150 houses burned and 600 acres burned. Arrest Saboteur of Alaskan Pipeline
A 26 year old miner was arrested near Fairbanks for allegedly setting pipeline explosions described by state officials as an amateurish sabotage attempt. Officers found a rifle and pistol on him as he walked along the Elliott Highway about ten miles north of Fairbanks near the blast site.

Corry Named Site for Northwest Drug Investigation School
The Northwest Regional Technical Assistance Staff will stage an advanced drug investigation school in Corry as part of a four county training program. Erie County Commissioner William C. Hill Jr. chairs the effort with 120 officers expected to attend across Erie Crawford Warren Forest and Venango counties. Four one week sessions, 40 hours each, will be held with Corry hosting a meeting location yet to be chosen. Training coordinated by Jack Hobson and Robert Berlin from the Division of Drug Law Enforcement and will issue certificates upon completion.

Corry State Police Busy With Area Calls
Corry based state police have been busy the last couple of days with problems near Columbus and Titusville. Yesterday they investigated a one car accident three miles east of Columbus Route 957 in which Evelyn DiBello 40 of R D 1 Bear Lake failed to negotiate a left turn on the roadway slid into a field and struck several small trees. Mrs DiBello was taken to Corry Memorial where she was admitted with possible scalp injuries. Her condition was listed as satisfactory today. Damage was estimated at $200 to the auto police are investigating a burglary which occurred yesterday at the Rustic Restaurant six miles east of Corry on Route 6. Kurt Michalski owner of the restaurant reported that the establishment was entered sometime during the night. Taken was a calculator a hot plate $34 in cash and a various assortment of glass. Police have some leads in the case and expect to make arrests in the near future.
