Erie Man Loses Bid To Escape Extradition
Nathaniel Hatcher, jailed since June 11, loses a habeas corpus challenge to extradition to Alabama. Judge Burton Laub rules substantial compliance with the Extradition Act suffices as documents show the accused’s presence at the crime scene. Alabama seeks Hatcher’s extradition for a Tallapoosa County case from a 12 year escape, with ACLU and NAACP opposing and considering further appeals.

Seek To Void State Body In Teacher Tiff
Harrisburg reports the Cornellsville Joint School District asked Dauphin County Court to strike down the State Human Relations Commission as unconstitutional. Attorney Anthony J. Cavalcante urged the court Thursday to block the commission from pressuring the board to hire a Black teacher, while the district contends the commission oversteps by delegating judicial powers. After a hearing, the agency ordered the board to hire immediately and to pay back wages to Mrs. Jane McPherson, claimed qualified but rejected. Cavalcante argues a quorum did not participate and that salary orders were improper since McPherson allegedly said she did not want the job.
