The New York boxing commission grants John Saxton a title defense against Carmen Basilio in Syracuse on September 12 or 19. Saxton won the title from Basilio in Chicago by decision last March 1 and had been banned in New York after his manager was refused a license. the ban was lifted to allow Basilio a title shot.
