County officials reversed a plan to raise General Electric Co plant taxes by 2.5 million, accepting a 900 thousand boost that yields 9 thousand dollars in current ten mills taxes. The change follows earlier hikes and a GE appeal alleging improper evaluation.
An ad promotes Brodhead's Dental Plate Powder claiming it aids active men and women with false teeth and promises lasting results. It asks readers to print their name and address on a penny postcard to Widnoon Co. in Kittanning for a free sample, and notes the product is sold at drug stores nationwide.
July 27 Spartansburg notes report two 500 Club gatherings. Mrs. Virgil Van Tassel hosted seven members. prizes went to Kathryn Rowley Susie Winans Annabelle Edwards. A second meeting at Mrs. Richard Witmer drew eleven members and one guest Mary Johnson with prizes won by Winifred Winans Irene Bruckner Flay Winans and Virginia Diemer. Nearby residents Mahleck John Mahle James Steiner attend. Community notices include a Methodist prayer meeting tonight and various social visits and reunions around Youngsville Mystic Park and North East.
Senator Revercomb asserts foreign agents pose a threat to U S security as the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee plans a week of hearings on alleged subversive activity by United Nations employees. Secretary Marshall disputes the claim, saying he knows of no security threat.
Jamestown July 27 final chapter in four slot machines case at the Moose Club. Judge Burgar sentenced Harold Carlson 40 club steward to a $50 fine for possession of slot machines. The machines were ordered destroyed and their contents disposed of by law. Proceeds, not yet determined, would go to the police pension fund or police benefit fund per the pension arrangements.
Erie July 27 The state superior court sustained an after discovered will of Kathryn Fay of Erie. The estate was bequeathed to Roy and May Keefer of Cleveland. Fay died November 23 1946 leaving 2500 in personal property and an West 8th Street apartment building valued at 45000 to 50000. Dr J A Root of Erie originally named in a probate will dated July 17 1945 contested the later will. The superior court upheld the February 1 1936 will amid appeals.
