Two Climbers Die After 600 Foot Fall On Andes Peak
An American mountain expedition sealing a 17 400 foot peak northeast of Lima reports two climbers dead. Roger Whitney 62 of Colorado Springs and Thomas Helm 32 of Santa Fe fell about 600 feet when Whitney slipped pulling Helm. Surviving climbers could not locate the bodies. Other team members include Stuart Turner Logan Utah and Robert Young Ames Iowa. The Iowa club organized the expedition, and the U S Embassy confirmed the five climbers.

Vietnam War Hanoi air defenses claim U S jet shot down
A U S. Air Force jet bomber was shot down about 40 miles west of Ha noi on Saturday, with no parachute seen and two crewmen presumed killed. Casualties in the Can Tho Mekong delta engagement were not confirmed by body count. The Soviet Union is said to have surface-to-air missile sites near Hanoi, though no U S plane losses were attributed to such missiles previously.

Tragic drowning of Franklin boy in French Creek
The body of 3 year old Brian Logue of Franklin was recovered from French Creek after he disappeared while playing with two teenage cousins. Volunteers from six Venango County fire companies searched with grappling hooks and divers. State Trooper Albert Bednar investigates. Brian planned to enter eighth grade at Franklin High School and was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church.
