Postmaster Day Resigns from Cabinet to Return to Private Life
Postmaster General J Edward Day resigns from a $60 000 year post after accepting Kennedy's invitation to join the Cabinet. Day will leave July 19 and be replaced by former Senator Benjamin A Smith II. He will head the Washington office of Sidley Austin Burgess and Smith and plans to become a partner there.

Two men in a boat spotted the body of an apparent drowning victim in the Oho River near Vanport Beaver County. The victim was tentatively identified as Donald H. Sair 38 of Rochester. He had been reported missing since Saturday.
