Mental Patient To Be Tried For Murders 44 Years Ago
A Grove City man formerly in a hospital for the criminally insane since 1929 will face trial for two 44 year old murders in Stark County. Edward Kaltenbaugh, now 65, appeared in court and was promised an attorney after being released from Lima Hospital as fit to stand trial. Prosecutor Dowd said there is enough evidence to prosecute despite the long interval and noted the Osers were slain in 1929 with a .32 rifle. The case recalls a prior insanity verdict and a long-held memory among local residents.

A Greensburg common pleas court ordered Compatibility Dating, Inc. to stop advertising that it uses a computer to match couples, alleging no such device exists. The company must file a compliance report within 30 days and establish a $1,000 client-claims bank. The decree was agreed to by executives without admitting guilt. Separately, Dr. Marina Whitman of Pittsburgh was named distinguished public service professor of economics at Pitt after announcing her departure from the Presidents Council of Economic Advisers.
