Grandmother Held After Knife Attack on Grandson
Police report Lillian Poston a grandmother in city jail awaiting arraignment on assault and battery and surety of the peace charges. Merrill Poston says the 14 year old grandson was visiting when she attacked him with a kitchen knife after drinking heavily.

Smethport Escapees Sentenced by Judge
Smethport, January 20 2008 Pensworth Port Allegany and William Fedick Corydon have been sentenced for multiple crimes including their escape from the McKean County jail last June 16. Pensworth drew four years in the Allegheny County Workhouse and eight years in Western Penitentiary. Fedick received an undetermined sentence at the Pennsylvania Industrial School in Huntingdon for terms of mayhem burglary prison break and aggravated assault and battery. The pair slugged a prison guard injuring him seriously during the break and were recaptured by county police three days later.

Oil City Resident Plunges To Death
Edward W. Burda a 22 year old Oil City man died after a fall from the third floor porch of the Schiffer Hotel. He suffered a skull fracture head contusion and facial lacerations. Deputy coroner Dr Maurice Dinberg called it an accidental death after police found no signs of foul play.

Pennsylvania Telephone Corp Wins Merit Award for Reports
The Pennsylvania Telephone Corporation earned a merit award for its 1948 annual report in the communications industry group after a competitive process with 2250 companies. The 1947 report also received a certificate of excellence. all three reports were prepared by Carl H. McKensie, then VP and treasurer, now president, based in Erie.
