Parcel post rate changes spark Senate backlash and Burleson move
Weather notes aside, reports detail Postmaster General Burleson proposing August 16 changes to parcel post rates extending benefits to a wider range of users. The plan reduces rates for two pounds from one cent per pound, keeps initial pound at five cents, and covers a 150 mile radius. Senators from both parties challenge presidential authority, asserting only Congress can alter rates, while express companies push to preserve their monopoly. The dispute highlights tensions between executive action and legislative control.
