Strange Will Termed Invalid by Connecticut Court
A Connecticut Supreme Court ruling declared a strange will invalid. The will from Mrs Helen Fors of Wethersfield directed mixing her ashes with her daughter’s in a special room and renting the first floor to a Socialist Labor party member. Valued at about 35000 dollars, the estate was to fund the ash depository, but the court found these provisions restraints and invalid under perpetuity rules.

Erie Tax Mill Increase Sought by City Employees
On July 23 Erie faced a proposed increase in city taxes by one and a half mills after a formal demand from Street Department workers Local 397 for a 15 cent per hour wage rise. Union president Charles A. Bates presented the request, but Finance Director Sherman Hickey Jr warned any raise for truck drivers would require matching raises for all 704 city employees, funded only by higher taxes. He estimated costs of 88 thousand dollars for five months and 211.2 thousand dollars for a full year, with no funds currently available.
