LAS VEGAS New Mexico July 28 Governor James Hinklesday refuses to recognize a pardon for editor Charles Magee of the New Mexico State Tribune jailed in Las Vegas. Adjutant General Skipwith sought release. Sheriff Delgade declined, citing no pardon for direct contempt. The case heads to the Supreme Court to decide if a governor can pardon in contempt cases.
Federal Trade Commission orders the United States Steel Corporation to abandon the Pittsburgh price system. The ruling declares the base Pittsburgh price plus freight discriminatory and harmful to competition. Carnegie Steel President Homer D Williams and others decline comment while noting formal statements may follow. Alice Margaret Lacey visits Meadville after plans to see her brother A J Lacey and family.

Erie authorities pursue Arthur J Lyons a Corry resident and former Elgin postmaster on a red alert warrant for fares and forgery of money orders. Federal inspector Tafel tracks him from Erie to Wesleysville as about 100 missing money order blanks are believed in Lyons possession amid business reverses.
A collision on Findley Road left John Zorn of north of the city with a wagon and driven by Mrs Henry Miller of South Center Street. Zorn suffered multiple fractures and cuts while Mrs Miller and the car occupants escaped injury. Dr Vy W. Graham treated Zorn at the scene. The crash occurred when the Miller car struck the wagon after its wheels locked during the attempt to avoid the wreck.
An explosion in Vernon Avenue and Long Beach when an automobile driven by Mrs Marian Watts struck a nitric acetylene case believed to contain nitroglycerin killed one man and mangled another. Terms of the blast remained unidentified hours after the incident.
Preparations are complete for the town festival at St Elizabeth church grounds this evening. Sandwiches ice cream and coke will be served, with amusements and a concert by the Corry Band. Mrs Lena Brown and son Wilkon Faye have returned home from a visit in Tidioute.
