Fire chief Ray Lavrie vows action against those behind false fire alarms. Sharon Whitla daughter of William F Whitla, linked to a famous 1908 kidnapping, is to marry William Clinger of Warren Pennsylvania. Whitla, eight at the time, was abducted and ransomed for ten thousand dollars. the kidnapers were captured and later died in 1992.

SAYRE Pa Dr Carl Beck 38 internationally noted surgeon died at Robert Packer Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Czechoslovakia he founded the American College of Surgeons the Chicago Surgical Society North Chicago Hospital and St Anthony's Hospital in Chicago. He came to the United States in 1890 retired about ten years ago and spent his time in Sayre and Washington Dc. His son Dr Willem G Beck is on the Packer Hospital staff. Four operations bear his name and he specialized in treatment of crippled arms and hands.
Heat and humidity drove the City Council to a brief meeting in the Municipal Building. The discussion covered a tar delivery contract for summer paving and a stalled Erie Railroad passenger station plot, with no immediate city stand on accepting the plot unless excavation is filled and graded.
Harlan Taylor a 21 year old of 521 Lake Street was jailed for 90 days in default on payment after pleading guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of drunkenness. He was arrested near East Main Street and a scuffle followed as police pursued. He has a history of arrests since 1949 and faced total fines of 545 plus costs.
Firemen found the charred bodies of three crewmen on the poop deck of the Norwegian freighter Black Gull in Lower New York Bay. The blaze, described as a naphthalene fire, swept the vessel Friday, with 45 rescued and four crew members still reported missing.

Richard Daniels, 21, and Gilbert Nielsen, 21, sustained facial and arm injuries. Police said McElroy drove a 1950 sedan into a sand pile near Route 6. A second crash near Union City left Raymond Schall uninjured after losing control. his car sustained $950 damage. A note mentions potential charges against nonresident road users during a closed stretch.
Five farmers oppose Columbus Dam enlargement on Brok Creek delaying a plan by the State Fish Commission to rebuild the dam and create a larger 50 to 60 acre lake with beach access. Westinghouse Electric Corp. announced plans to build two of the nation’s largest transformers at Sharon for the Tennessee Valley Authority Colbert steam plant at Pride Alabama. The units rated 220000 kilovolt amperes will power lighting for about 800000 homes or meet the municipal needs of Pride’s 2601000 population.

Board President Williams Wodtirsky says Spring Creek may decide August 4 after Kiward meeting. Authorities list school board appointments and bids for desks lumber and shop equipment as part of the joint junior senior high project.
The Tehachapi Mountain quake centered ten miles south of Tehachapi, felt from San Francisco to the Mexican border, killed 11 people and injured over 25 as walls collapsed and a quake house fell.
